By the Stars of Saint Matthew by Grant Tracey

By the Stars of Saint Matthew is a love story set in a farmhouse, against a 1930s Depression-era, gangland backdrop. Kip Haley, a veteran of WWI, and a member of Red Foley's gang, seeks refuge from himself and his wounds. Iris, a small-town veterinarian, seeks to heal him and herself. The two are on parallel paths of redemption and journeys to discover their authentic selves.

ABOUT GRANT TRACEY: Grant Tracey edits North American Review and teaches film and creative writing at the University of Northern Iowa. He has appeared in over forty community theater productions and has been nominated five times for a Pushcart Prize. He is author of the Hayden Fuller Mysteries series. A new Fuller novel, _A Shoeshine Kill_, is forthcoming later this year (Twelve Winters Press).



KREON by Stephen Taft

In this loosely based adaptation of the play Antigone by Sophocles, a tiny, isolated nation is only a threat to itself. It has been ruled by Kings for generations. In recent years the economy has faltered and more recently, modern communications have been greatly affected by a war involving two brothers vying for the throne. Now, it is time for the next chapter.

ABOUT STEPHEN TAFT: Although primarily a director, Stephen has worn many artistic hats in his career including arts administrator, actor, designer and in recent years, playwright. His plays include the musical, Storybook Christmas, Apples and Elephants, Nice and Kind, The Drive, Hope the Firefly and others. He’s had plays produced in Iowa, Ohio, New York, Florida, Missouri and Louisiana. Join us at the “Best Friends Animal Hospital and Rescue” for the adventure of a lifetime! Follow Lola (the shih tzu), Molly (the maine coon), Paladin (the newf) and Casanova (the mutt) and all the shenanigans that go on in the basement of the hospital! And what is going on with that weather? This zany musical romp will have your pet-owning audience sitting, shaking and rolling over in the aisles.

ABOUT TOM BALLMER: Tom Ballmer has served as the Executive Director of the Stebens Children's Theatre in Mason City, IA for the past 29 years. Before that he was the Artistic Director at the Black Hawk Children's Theater in Waterloo for 10 years. Ballmer has written 10 plays for young audiences, directed nearly 200 productions and acted professionally throughout the North Iowa area. Recently retired, Ballmer is currently enjoying his family (particularly his grandchildren), playing pickleball and writing another play. 

ABOUT HANNAH HUEY-JONES: Hannah Huey-Jones holds a BFA in Theatre from Millikin University and a Masters in Education from DePaul University. She is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory and the Second City Music Improv Conservatory. While in Chicago, she wrote book and lyrics for several children’s theatre productions, in addition to directing children’s theatre, and acting. She currently works in the disability office at Michigan State University.

ABOUT MICHAEL HUEY-JONES: Michael Huey-Jones holds a BM in Music Education from Millikin University and a Masters in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University. He taught K-12 music for 13 years, in Chicago and in rural Iowa. During this time he wrote music for several original productions, directed show choirs, and produced and directed many fully staged musicals. Michael is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University.
