CEDAR VALLEY CHAMBER MUSIC: THE JULIET LETTERS

Inspired by a professor in Verona who took it upon himself to answer correspondence sent to the fictional character of Juliet Capulet, The Juliet Letters is a song cycle in which each of the songs is a letter: love letters, begging letters, suicide notes, "Dear John" letters, breakup letters, and even junk mail. The program is a tribute to not only Costello’s masterwork, but the idea of “classical crossover” and the current synthesis of rock, jazz, pop, and world music into the classical tradition.

It's 1857. Tenants of the Mayhew Boarding House on the Lower East Side are an odd bunch, but their involvement in the suffrage movement connects them. As they prepare to host an important gathering, they receive an unexpected visit from a constable. One of the tenants has been murdered! Hilarious hijinks ensue amidst the backdrop of a murder mystery.
