Improvisation is a time-honored tradition and skill in American theatre. With the right skills and guidance, anyone can learn the tools to have fun and be successful in improv. Here are three unique classes perfect for any skill level or prior experience.
Advanced Improvisation: Long Form
Long form improvisation (also called the Harold) allows performers the time to develop believable characters. The organic story lines work to connect a series of scenes into a satisfying whole. This class is intended for those with a working knowledge of basic improv who would like to take on a dramatic challenge.

Beginning Improvisation
For those who’ve wanted to try improvisation but didn’t know where to start - this is the class for you. We’ll lay out the basics of improv from the ground up. Lots of short improv games and situations will help to build your mental fitness. You’ll learn the building blocks and create clever scenes in no time.

Basic Improvisation: Short, Fast and Funny
A class for those who like improv and like for things to be funny and quick. This class allows you to further develop your skills with the types of games played on “Who’s Line is it Anyway.” You’ll learn how to work with each other, to listen and to think quickly. Taught by Doug Shaw
Class Dates:
- Advanced: Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:00pm
- August 8 - September 5
- Beginning: Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:30am
- August 12 - September 16 (no class on 9/2)
- Basic: Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00pm
- August 24 - September 21
Cost:
All classes are $40 for the 5-class session. Dues can be paid by cash or check made out to CFCT.

Meet the Instructors

GREG HOLT
Greg Holt started acting at age six and went on to study improv in Chicago, IL, with Second City, Improv Olympic and the Annoyance Theatre. He has founded improv troupes and has coached various improv teams through the years.
He is the Executive Director of CFCT and also runs the Red Herring Theatre and WaterCity Films.

DOUG SHAW
Doug Shaw fell in love with improv in 1993 and took numerous classes in Minneapolis. He has led the successful troupe Half-Masted for 12 years, with alumni making it to esteemed stages like Improv Olympic and Upright Citizens Brigade. He has won UNI's top teaching awards and still attends master-classes.
Doug enjoys performing various forms of improv and appreciates both classic and cutting-edge structures. He is also a math professor.
