Volunteer and Audition

CFCT relies on volunteers. They are very important to us and we look to involve people in many ways. If you are interested in helping us, look at the info below and see where you can become involved. All volunteers will be asked to complete an intake form. You may also email us at with inquiries at Info@MyCFCT.org!

Backstage Volunteer Opportunities

Stagehands assist with props and set pieces to make sure the show runs smoohtly.
Props Coordinators source (and sometimes even create!) props that will be used throughout a production.

Costume Designers create the vision for the costume elements of the production.
Costumers assist with coordinating our costume areas, costume construction, and backstage during shows with costume changes.
Hair & Makeup Heads/Crew help bring the story to life by transforming the actors into their characters.

Scenic Deisgners bring the world of the play to life right on the stage.
Scenic Construction folks are responsible for building the set and transforming the Oster Regent.
Scenic Painters bring their artistic talents to the stage by painting set and prop pieces.

Lighting Designers bring technical expertise to the stage and bring the lighting world of a production to life.
Light Board Operators run the lighting componenets of a production.
Sound Designers bring technical expertise to the stage and bring the aural world of a production to life.
Sound Engineers run the audio components of a production.

Front of House Volunteer Opportunities

Box Office assistants Selling tickets, placing orders, and assisting at Will Call
Concessions folks sell popcorn and beverages before each show and during intermssion.

Ushers help patrons find their reserved seats, open and close curtains, and assist throughout the performance.

Help to set up the appetizers and drinks, serve and welcome Applaud members, cast, and crew, and help clean up at the end. Usually involves being there from 8:30-11PM.

Auditioning at Cedar Falls Community Theatre

Auditions take place 8 to 10 weeks ahead of the production dates. We encourage everyone to audition and do not discriminate. Everyone will receive consideration without regard to race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability.

We'll try to take the pressure off to make the process enjoyable. Here are a few tips to help:

Prepare

Research the show and consider where you might fit in the cast. Familiarity should help you find your own voice, perspective or "take" on the role. You are welcome to rent a script ahead of time to help you prepare, just stop by during business hours.

Be Proactive About Your Schedule and Availability

Bring your calendar for the next couple of months. The director will want to know about pre-existing commitments now... not after you are cast.

Be Gracious

Not everyone can be the lead. The director has reasons for the decisions made and we ask that you respect that. You may be offered a role that you weren't planning for or be asked to help the show in other areas.

Be On Time

Please respect the production team and your fellow auditionees by showing up to audition on time. If you might have a conflict that prevents you from coming on time, reach out to the director ahead of time.
